We sell welded steel panels, not knocked down aluminum

This distinction sounds technical and it is worth about 90 percent in duty, so it ends up on the price you pay.

The United States antidumping order on aluminum extrusions from China names fence system parts and subassemblies as covered merchandise, explicitly. Aluminum pickets, rails and posts imported loose, in bulk, to be assembled here, are squarely inside that order at roughly 86 percent antidumping plus countervailing duty.

There are two ways around it and only two. Import welded steel, which is outside the aluminum order altogether. Or import aluminum only as fully assembled, welded, powder coated panels with the hardware fitted, which is a different article than a bundle of parts.

We do both. Our standard line is ornamental steel because it is stronger, it is cheaper to land, and it lasts longer. Aluminum is available as a finished panel for anyone who wants a lighter fence that never needs paint.

Where we are being straight with you about a weakness

Guangdong is an aluminum extrusion and window province. It is not the province that supplies the American fence market. The named Chinese suppliers to the large US fence importers are in Shandong and Zhejiang.

We source fence separately from doors and windows for that reason. And we could not find a single southern Chinese fence maker advertising ASTM F2408, the ornamental fence standard, or any US pool barrier code compliance. If you need an F2408 stamped product off the shelf today, we are not yet the right supplier and we would rather say so.

Pool fencing has a real code behind it

A barrier around a residential pool is governed under the IRC appendix, and the numbers are specific: minimum 48 inch height, maximum 4 inch gap between pickets, maximum 2 inch ground clearance, and self closing self latching gates that swing away from the water with the latch at least 54 inches up. Our pool line is built to those dimensions. Confirm the adopted appendix with your jurisdiction before you order, because pool provisions are adopted separately from the main code.

Market figures are published installed costs for wrought iron fence, $50 to $85 per linear foot, with a 200 foot project commonly quoted at $10,000 to $17,000. Our figures assume flat ground and no rock. Grade changes, rock, and utility locates can move a fence quote more than the fence itself does, and we will tell you before we dig.

What is included

  • Site measure and layout
  • Utility locate request placed before digging
  • Post holes to a 42 inch frost depth, concrete set
  • Panels, posts, caps, hardware and gate hardware
  • Cleanup and spoil removal

Not included: removal of an existing fence, rock excavation, retaining or grade work, survey, or HOA and permit fees. Fence lines near a property boundary are worth surveying, and we will say so rather than guess where your line is.
